Panthers in the Community vision

 

We want to bring all SAFC community initiatives under the one banner and that has led to the vision of Panthers in the Community.


The wider picture is that not only are we using the power of football to target, educate and assist local community citizens through our supportive presence and tailored programmes, we are also taking the name of Panthers to our local community.


All of our efforts will be geared towards becoming a greater community-orientated organization. It’s all part of developing a sustainable business case in which all our community activities ultimately lead to the expansion of the Panthers Brand and the supporter base of the football club.


This is now widely known as ‘return on social investment’ and many well known brands have developed their business strategy around this philosophy. Corporate social responsibility is increasingly becoming important, and we at the Panthers believe we can capitalize on our community investment by increasing our commercial return over the coming years, to ultimately expand our Panthers in the Community VISION.


Community Initiatives and involvement include:

  • Southern Man Made programme;
    • The Panthers connecting and providing a programme specifically tailored for young
      men (boys) with no male father-figure in their household. A group of SAFC Senior
      Players will provide a mentoring environment which will result in development not only
      with the young men (boys) in the programme but the players as well. This program will
      incorporate gym and fitness work, life skills, eating habits and volunteer roles within
      the club resulting in a wonderful foundation for these young men to grow and develop
      into outstanding young adult men. Local MP’s Gay Thompson and Amanda Rishworth
      have flagged their extreme excitement and support for this programme believing this
      particular group within our community would benefit greatly from our involvement and
      commitment.
  • Christmas Pageant;
  • Australia Day concert;
  • Junior Auskick and school visits; and
  • Hackham West Community Centre visits.

Official Support Partner (Panthers in the Community) - Hickinbotham Group


A long association with the South Adelaide Football Club dating back to 1945 has led to support for the Panthers in the Community programmes – and the first exciting venture for South Adelaide Football Club is our Southern Man Made programme.

 

Hickinbotham is one of the most successful and recognizable names in estate development and affordable home building in Adelaide, especially the Southern Fleurieu Region.

 

Its support for the South Adelaide Football Club has further increased with a three year partnership as the leading partner of Panthers in the Community. Panthers in the Community will be about having a profound effect on promoting an active healthy life amongst our families and community citizens within the southern region. The Southern Man Made program will be about the club connecting and providing a programme specifically tailored for young men (boys) with no male father-figure in their household. A group of SAFC players will provide a mentoring environment which will result in development not only with the young men in the programme but the players as well. A programme incorporating gym and fitness work, life skills, eating habits and volunteer roles within the club will be a wonderful foundation for these young men to grow and develop into outstanding young adult men. This programme was created from an idea put forward to the club via our local MP’s – Gay Thompson and Amanda Rishworth. With their local knowledge it was flagged with our club that this particular group within our community would benefit greatly from our involvement and commitment.

 

Company Director and SAFC club patron Alan Hickinbothams’ long personal support for both the Panthers and community awareness will come as no surprise to anyone familiar with him. The support of the Hickinbotham family has gone from strength to strength since Alan Hickinbotham founded the company in 1954, increasing their partnership which now includes Naming Rights to Hickinbotham Oval and the official leading partner of Panthers in the Community.

 

Hickinbotham Group applies the same commitment to their community initiative investments as they do their entire construction activities. That means results, and Company Directors Alan and Michael Hickinbotham believe Panthers in the Community will have enormous benefits for all involved.

 

Panthers in the Community will be about promoting stronger links between the football club and the southern region. Football will be a great vehicle to maximize personal development amongst our community citizens and families by giving more attention and support to encourage a more active, responsible and healthy life style.

Community Support Partner - Hackham West Community Centre

 

The Partnership between the Hackham West Community Centre and the South Adelaide Panthers Football Club is focused on the enhancement of mind, body and spirit for young people in our community. We aim to do this through a programme of mentoring, demonstrating the advantages of having power with people, not power over people, and supporting young men in the pursuit of their full potential.

 

We aim at Hackham West Community Centre, through professionalism, kindness, honesty and fun to provide the best quality of service where respectful and trusting relationships can be developed.

 

We see the Southern Man Made programme as another important step in providing an environment within our community where young men will be empowered towards independence and a state of well-being.

 

Just a bit about who we are at HWCC:

 

We are an Incorporated not for profit organization that has been primarily serving the suburbs of Hackham West, Hackham, Huntfield Heights and Noarlunga Downs for 26 years. Our main objectives are:

 

  • To provide a meeting place for local residents where relationships can be formed to
    foster a local community spirit;
  • To improve the health and welfare of disadvantaged local residents by providing
    educational, recreational, sporting and social activities and support services; and
  • To involve local residents in the planning for provision of services and activities of the
    association.

 

HWCC is run by 96 registered volunteers and around 30 part-time paid staff. We deliver programmes for all ages, offered under the categories – over 50’s, pre-school children, youth, families, women’s projects, men’s projects, low income support services, adult education and volunteering. HWCC makes approximately 1200 contacts each week.

 

We are suitably enthusiastic and feel privileged to be a community partner with the Panthers in Southern Man Made.
