Came to prominence in the SANFL in recent seasons as a defensive minded on-baller. The Panthers have recruited the 180cm super fit midfielder to add strength to its on-ball brigade.

Brad Crabb

The Full Back Plumber from Western Districts on Kangaroo Island has become a respected leader at the Panthers. The born defender made his SANFL League debut in 2007, managing three games and a goal.

In 2008 he added a further 12 games and was awarded with the League Most Improved Award, Best Clubman Award and 6th in the Knuckey Cup.

While Full Back hasn’t been the easiest place to play for the Panthers during the last couple of years, Crabb has always given his all. In 2009 and 2010 he played every match and was the cornerstone of the defence.

An aggressive and competitive key defender, Crabb added more finesse to his game in 2010 and took greater advantage of his running ability. His team first attitude was rewarded with being appointed as Deputy Vice Captain at the start of the 2010 season. It was again epitomized when he won the Knuckles Award, which is awarded for team positive acts, and finished equal fifth in the Knuckey Cup.

In 2011 he was appointed Vice Captain.

Josh Thewlis

Thewlis had stints at the Sydney Swans, where he was drafted in 2002 at pick 50 from the Bendigo Pioneers, and North Melbourne as a rookie. He managed two AFL matches at the Swans.

Made an immediate impact when he joined the Panthers in 2006, playing 21 matches, including the finals series kicking 13 goals. Skilful on either side of the body, versatile and tough Thewlis was a vital contributor during the Panthers first finals appearance in 14 years. He finished equal fourth in the Knuckey Cup.

In a testing season, Thewlis delivered another strong showing in 2007. Managing 18 games he finished runner-up in the Knuckey Cup.

2008 started the season in similar vein of form before suffering the first of his nail gun injuries. An errant nail through the knee put paid to another promising season. Although he played 14 games, he still managed to come 5th in the Knuckey Cup.

Season 2009 was slowed by another errant nail, this time through the heel. After struggling to find form early, Thewlis finished the year in a blaze. He was among the best in seven of the final eight matches as a midfielder, who was dangerous when forward. He kicked four against Centrals in Round 21 and three in the final round of the season against North at Prospect. His strong finish saw him climb to fifth in the B&F.

Shoulder surgery put paid to his 2010 season, playing only 7 games.

Turning 27 during 2011, Thewlis starts the season as the Panthers oldest player. With 75 SANFL games under his belt and a full pre-season, 2011 looms as a big year for the now qualified carpenter.

Michael Wundke

The North Adelaide recruit will look to make the goal square his own at South Adelaide from 2011.

Wundke played 13 SANFL matches in 2007 for the Roosters, kicking 27 goals. North Melbourne saw enough to pick him as a rookie for 2008. After a strong season in the VFL at aligned North Ballarat, which included 45 goals and a premiership, Wundke was elevated to the senior list for 2009.

Despite a solid season and another VFL premiership, he was delisted by the Kangaroos at the conclusion of the season and returned to North Adelaide for 2010.

After struggling with fitness during the 2010 pre-season, Wundke’s first match for the was ironically against South Adelaide in round four, where he kicked four goals in the Roosters comfortable win. Injury got hold of him soon after and he only managed four League matches for the season.

The key forward has completed all the 2011 pre-season since joining in November and is keen to make an immediate impression. He’ll certainly be a key focus of the Panthers forward line as the Club looks to him providing a long term replacement for the retired Ben Warren.

Nick Liddle

While watching Coburg’s Andrew Horne the Panthers took a liking to Nick Liddle. At a meeting with Horne late in the 2009 season, Andrew suggested a team mate was potentially interested in playing in the SANFL. The Panthers pounced, with Liddle signing with the Club at the end of Coburg’s 2009 season.

Liddle started his football at Mitcham in the Eastern Football League in Melbourne. He played TAC Cup with Eastern Ranges in 2005, but was told he was too small to perhaps make it at the next level and returned to Mitcham. Then former Mitcham Coach Andrew Collins invited Liddle to Coburg.

He took out the Coburg Reserves B&F in 2007, added Senior Most Improved in 2008, and then the Coburg Senior B&F in 2009.

Instantly the diminutive red head made an impression in the 2010 season at South Adelaide. Liddle managed to play all 20 games kicking 9 goals, with three coming in a lone hand performance in the round 10 loss to Central Districts.

Liddle featured in the best players on 12 occasions and was considered the Panthers best on eight of those. He averaged 22 disposals for the year, but another feature was his ferocious tackling. His performances didn’t go unnoticed as with each passing week he received a little more attention from opposition team.

The accolades certainly came at the conclusion of the year as Liddle made the Advertiser Team of the Year and was honored by taking out South Adelaide’s Knuckey Cup. He was added to the Panthers leadership group and spent a short period at the conclusion of 2010 season training at Port Power in the hope of winning a spot on their list. Nick was added to the Leadership Group during the season.

After a full pre-season at the Panthers the 23 year old Liddle enters the 2011 season primed for a big year.

Liddle also contributed to the Club’s community programs in 2010 by being a significant part, along with Xavier Gotch, of the Panther’s Be Your Best program in southern zone primary schools.

Nathan Daniel

Daniel joined the Panthers in 2011 from Woodville West Torrens. An inside midfielder he made his debut for the Eagles under Ron Fuller in 2008. He started that season in the Eagles U19 team, before playing 12 matches in the League team in that season.

In 2010 Daniel found it difficult to get a regular berth in the Eagles strong midfield managing only 6 games. While he was recalled for the Eagles preliminary finals loss his he felt his opportunities were going to be limited in 2011.

After 31 League matches he decided to re-acquaint himself with the coach who gave him his SANFL debut. Extremely fit with a strong work ethic Daniel has certainly impressed over the 2011 pre-season. Creative with his hands, a strong mark and defensively accountable the 21 year old is sure to be a prominent member of the Panthers midfield.

Nathan is originally from Paskerville and boarded at Prince Alfred College.
