Panthers Take down Centrals in a Fiery Grand Final Rematch

The league side has been on a roll. Round 7 is another chance to keep the form going and a Saturday afternoon Grand Final rematch against Central Districts is the perfect opportunity.

In the first term the pressure was through the roof. The only score coming off of Melissa Andersons boot just after the 7-minute mark. The set shot from 45-metres out on a tight angle being smooth as silk.

Nothing was getting past the girls, and it was a quarter of pressure acts making the difference.

After the first term the girls were up by 6-points. During the second the effort lifted majorly.

The Bulldogs were only able to supply 1-point while the league side slotted three majors alongside one minor score.

Doreena Hansen got the ball rolling early in the term after a smooth forward entry saw her mark the ball 40-metres out, the kick was pure.

South kept the scoring pressure up as the opposition was unable to get it out of the Panthers forward fifty.

Litonya Cockatoo-Motlap was impactful with her major, making quick work of her defender and unleashing from 30-metres out while on the run.

Emily Brockhurst followed up not long after with her 20-metre set-shot.

It was looking effortless for the squad and headed into the second half up by 24-points is a comfortable position to be in.

Brockhurst would strike once again at the start of the third securing her second major of the contest, the only south major of the term.

It was back and forth during this term and Centrals managed to secure their first goal during this quarter.

The squad still looked strong, especially Caitlin Couch who would end the game with 24 disposals.

Still in a comfortable position up by 26-points headed into the final term the league side had to finish what they started.

That is exactly what they would do, moving the ball well and managing to slot two more majors in the process.

Nikki Nield would strike early picking up a loose ball and throwing it on the boot around the bend from 35-metres out, making it look stylish in the process.

The final score would come form who else but Emily Brockhurst, palming off her defender and running onto an open goal.

With that the women’s league side had secured another win. Beating Centrals by a solid 30-points.

Their next contest will come against Norwood on Friday the 26th at Coopers Stadium in a 7:10pm timeslot.

The Development League Side was looking to end the season on a high. Matching up against Central Districts in a Saturday night clash was the last chance for the squad to make their presence be known.

In the first term the panthers were firing, Jess Kirk making it look easy after she shrugged off her defender and kicked the first major of the game before the one-minute mark.

She would follow this up not long after, taking a mark and finishing her work with a 20-metre set shot.

It was looking clean all across the ground and it wasn’t long before Gypsy Schirmer was getting a release handball and kicking around her body for a goal.

It was great to see, and Centrals couldn’t do anything about it. Headed into the second up by 18-points plenty of football was to come.

During the second term the scoring slowed up but with that being said the back six were locked in, especially Charlotte Dolan who was a force back there all game.

Seraphina Moon would kick the only major of the term after a leading ball trickled forward into her hands with a smooth pick up, finishing the work while on the move from 30-metres out.

Centrals were still scoreless at the end of the half and the development squad had a 26-point lead.

Kirk would strike again for her third of the contest after repeating forward entries off the back of some intense pressure would leave her in the square firing over her shoulder.

The intensity that was brought by the squad was next level and it was an impressive display. Shae Archbold would secure a major in the late portion of the term and it would lead the squad into the final quarter up by 41-points.

It was a lot of the same in the final quarter. The opposition powerless and unable to do anything to stop the siege of the Panthers.

Lucy Northcott started the term well after she took a strong mark 25-metres away from the goals, making sure her set shot was just as strong, securing her first of the contest.

With that the regular season was complete off the back of a 53-point win which saw Central Districts remain scoreless.

The only game left now is the Grand Final, which will see the Panthers face Glenelg at Flinders University Stadium on Saturday the 27th at 4pm.
