Tom Highmore becomes a Panther

10 December 2019

Former Canberra Demon Tom Highmore will pull on the Blue and White for 2020.

The highly regarded defender will head to Flinders University Stadium for the 2020 SANFL Statewide Super League season.

Having played the for the demons for the last two seasons, the 21-year old averaged 20 disposals across the half back line in 2019, where he was also named in the NEAFL Team of the Year.

The former GWS academy member was awarded a NEAFL Rising Star nomination in Round 14, 2016.

Highmore played his first NEAFL game at just 16 years of age, followed by finishing as runner up in the Eastlakes Football Club Best and Fairest in 2015.

He was also voted as the Players Player for the Demons in 2018 and 2019.

"We are very excited to get Tom to the footy club, we have been in discussions with Tom for just over 12 months and have watched him closely in his development during that time." Said Senior Coach Jarrad Wright.

"He is a very athletic 194cm Hybrid defender who is very courageous in aerial contests and will provide great rebound out of our back half."

"I've been speaking to Jarrad for the last 12 to 18 months, he's been pretty persistent which has been good" Said Tom Highmore.

"I've heard from a number of people about the quality of person he is, and a good coach which is super attractive"

"South really stood out, with a really quality playing group, and there have been some really good recruits"

"It's super exciting as South Adelaide are on the rise."

"They're a ripping bunch of boys, I went out to dinner with Matt Rose and Joe Haines, and they are just two super likable guys."

"I also met a few of the other guys in Malcolm Karpany and Liam Fitt and I knew straight away that I could see myself playing alongside these guys"

When asked about what his role will likely be, Highmore said it would be similar to his role with Canberra.

"I'm a reasonably versatile player who can play on talls and smalls, so it's more of where does the team need me"

"I think I will start off with a similar sort of role as that third tall"

"I'd like to think with I'm a smart footballer with pretty good skills on both sides of the body with ball in hand, really good one on one player too, I think they are my key attributes"

We welcome Tom to the club.
