Recruited from Kangaroo Island, "Sticks" made a significant impact at South Adelaide, playing 267 senior games for the Panthers between 1985 and 1997.

A powerful forward with a reliable kick, he finished his career with 391 goals and was the club's leading goal kicker in three seasons (1987, 1989, and 1990), including a personal best of 55 goals in the 1987 season.

David also served as the club's captain in 1996 and 1997, was named Best Team Man in 1996, and played in two night premierships during his decorated career.
