About

Provide an opportunity for all South Adelaide Past Players & Officials to reconnect with teammates & colleagues from their respective era and hopefully commence new relationships with former Panthers from other eras.

Provide support to fellow South Adelaide Past Players & Officials when necessary and contribute financial support to assist a range of services to SAFC where possible.

As part of a new suite of initiatives from the Past Players & Officials Committee, we aim to provide meaningful and significant financial support to current South Adelaide senior and junior players. We also aim to provide well-being, pastoral care and hardship support for past players and officials if required.

The South Adelaide Football Club Past Players and Officials (PP&O) Association was formed in 1991 under the leadership of former player Gary Mousley who was Chairman for 15 years ably assisted by David Earl, Ian Threadgold and Bob Swanson. PP&O members paid an annual sub and could make voluntary donations. This allowed the PP&O to organise fundraising functions, donate to the SAFC and build the ‘Hut on the Hill’.

Built in 1991, the shed provides a permanent monument to the PP&O. This location is a meeting place for our members and a place to congregate and show support to our playing teams. We encourage all past players & officials to stand together and show strength in numbers which will promote our membership and provide a presence to our current players.

The PP&O Association committee is;

  • Trevor Mitton (President)
  • David Earl
  • Brenton Honor
  • Peter McIntyre
  • Craig Dewhirst
  • Michael Bennett
  • Ben Woodhouse
  • Greg Sproule

Players

SAFC has a chronological ‘league debut number’ list dating back to 1876 which contains each player that played league football for South Adelaide. As at the end of the 2025 season 1,856 players have played league football for South Adelaide.

In recognition of the achievement in playing league football, the Past Players & Officials Committee decided to implement a new initiative to present all players who played at least one game of league footy with South Adelaide a 'Baggy Blue' cap containing their unique # league debut number.

All current players also receive a 'Baggy Blue' cap on debut containing their # league debut number which is presented by a past player to acknowledge their first league game for South Adelaide. This initiative aims to bond all South Adelaide league players; past, present & future.

or go to Every Player List. Here for Men. Here for Women.

To the legends, the 200 gamers, the 199 to 1 gamer, the good average players, the just average players, the first and only gamers, the one seasoners, the pre-seasoners, the non-life members, the has-beens and the never-was’s.

There’s no doubt you’ve played alongside some champions and witnessed first-hand their natural qualities which made them so, year after year, opponent after opponent in rain, hail, mud or shine, our legends always found a way.

Realistically though for most, our footy days were a mix of shattered dreams, opportunities missed, and getting dropped to the twos for no bloody reason! We all endured concussions, shredded ligaments, blood curdling corkies, broken jaws, busted noses and torn hammy’s along the way.

After all was said and career was done, one momentous occasion was absorbed amongst the chaos; it was the excitement of being named in the Panthers league team for the very first time. On reflection, surely this was the highlight of all our careers. “You’ve made the league team” your family and friends would say - the anticipation, the well wishes, the build-up and nervousness of pulling on the famous blue and white guernsey inside “the sheds” for one of the oldest and proudest clubs in the land, when playing your first league game.

First games often didn’t go quite to plan, even more so, your last games. So, when the boots were hung up and the cheering went silent, no one really said goodbye, we all just moved on & got on with our lives.  Something was missing though & we think we’ve found it with an ol ‘baggie blue’.

Time in footy is marked with numbers; on your jumper, games played, goals tally, kicks, handballs, training sessions attended, training sessions missed, hangers & clangers, big contracts, small contracts, times dropped, seasons played, beers after the game, time in the showers, footy trips, card games, best and fairest votes - it’s always been a numbers game.

Now you’ve got a new number; a unique personalised league debut number proudly displayed on a ‘baggie blue’. This cap has been designed subtlety so it can be worn discreetly but proudly while out walking, talking, golfing, fishing, riding & sliding, drinking a beer, working a plough or wearing it right now!
