Few images capture the spirit of 80s football like a high-flying forward perched on shoulders and kicking bags of goals.

John Schneebichler was one of the best to do it for South Adelaide, having booted 351 goals across 234 games for the Panthers.

A hard-working and reliable player, Schneebichler enjoyed a stellar 13-season career with South, debuting in the senior side in 1975 after rising through the ranks.

Versatile and dependable, he played in multiple positions and always delivered, no matter the role, with grit and determination. He was part of the Panthers’ losing Grand Final side against Port Adelaide in 1979 and finished as the club’s leading goal kicker with 65 goals in 1983.

Schneebichler captained South Adelaide in his final three seasons at the club before making a high-profile move to Glenelg for his last year of league football.

In addition to his club career, he also represented South Australia five times.
