Jim Deane - 1953 & 1957

Jim Deane is one of South Adelaide Football Club's most decorated players.

Jim not only won the 1953 and 1957 Magarey Medals during his League career (as well as finishing runner-up in 1949, 56 & 57), but he was also awarded South Adelaide's Best and Fairest, the Knuckey Cup, on six occasions (1948, 49, 51, 53, 56 & 57) - the second most of any player in Club history.

In total Jim played 157 games for the Panthers over two stints (1945-53 and 1956-57), captaining the Club for five years (1951, 52, 53, 56 & 57) and coaching the team from 1951-53 and 1970-71. He played mainly as a centreman, had a dynamic left foot and is acknowledged as one of the finest exponents of short and long distance passing that the game has seen.

Jim represented South Australia on 15 occasions and also enjoyed two very successful seasons with the Richmond club in 1954-55.

He is a member of the South Adelaide Football Club "Greatest Team Ever", and has been inducted into the South Adelaide and SANFL Hall of Fame.
