Goal Struggles Continue as Bulldogs Notch Win Over Panthers

South Adelaide suffered a third loss in a row in the SANFLW League as missed opportunities in front of goal again proved the difference in a 10-point defeat to Central District.

The Panthers made a host of changes as they happily welcomed back, Layla Vizgaudis and Marley Tape from U18 state representative duties.

Among the inclusions were two debutants, as Flagstaff Hill’s Tiana Lush (#141) and Cove’s Zali Trenorden (#142) were brought in to play their first games.

Premiership players Jordann Rugless and Charlotte Dolan also celebrated their 50th SANFLW League games together.

The opening quarter proved to be the highest-scoring on a low-scoring day, with Centrals taking an early advantage after a touched ball denied Olivia Evans the first goal.

Mel Anderson had her opponent in a spin, but her attempt was rushed through for a behind after landing on the goal line, all happening before the Bulldogs had an entry inside forward 50.

Centrals punished the early misses, converting their two chances into goals. The Panthers were outmarked 4-16 by quarter time, with the opposition enjoying more of the free-flowing ball.

It was a difficult start to the second term with the Panthers’ defence coming under heavy fire, holding firm for a time before Miyu Endersby broke through for the Bulldogs.

Soriah Moon missed from a set shot deeper into the quarter as she continued to battle hard with her side trailing.

A slow third quarter left the Panthers down by three straight kicks with the final term to play.

After a positive start, Evans had a couple of chances on goal, but it wasn’t her day in front of the sticks, with the Panthers registering their seventh behind without a major.

The goal came in spectacular fashion as Moon combined with Vizgaudis, who finished from long range as the outside run was made.

A late behind to Doreena Hansen did little to change the outcome, as the Panthers finished on 1.8, the same figure the side recorded in their loss to Sturt last week.

Centrals could only add a rushed behind to their score, but it brought about the win.

Moon maintained her form with 26 disposals, 40 hitouts, eight tackles and a remarkable 17 clearances across the game.

Nikki Nield returned confidently from a hand injury, picking up 24 disposals and seven tackles.

Jess Chyer had a very busy first term, ending with 20 disposals, while Vizgaudis went along with six clearances and the only goal.

Following a short break, South Adelaide will line up against Glenelg at Magain Stadium in Round 11 on Saturday, 18th July at 12:00pm.
