South Adelaide rewrote the record books with a remarkable 74-point victory over Glenelg at Magain Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers' final tally of 13.10 (88) was the highest score in the club's SANFLW League history, surpassing the previous record of 13.9 (87) set against Sturt in Round 8, 2018.

With Emma Charlton and Hope Taylor returning from minor injuries, the side received a timely lift as they looked to end a run of three straight losses.

Layla Vizgaudis cleverly slid into the path of a Nikki Nield kick to convert the opening goal, before Taylor and Emily Brockhurst added majors of their own.

The Panthers' composure inside 50 was on display as they patiently worked the ball to open targets, with Mel Anderson providing an important link in the chain across half-forward.

Glenelg’s only two goals of the match came in the first half, both from free kicks, keeping them within striking distance at the main break.

Ill-discipline from the Tigers did them no favours however, with multiple 25-metre penalties conceded as they fought to keep possession.

Captain Tiff King held onto a goal-saving mark on the line, while also filling the void in the ruck admirably with Soriah Moon sidelined with a calf complaint. 

After half-time, the Panthers went to another level to put on a staggering nine goals unanswered.

Doreena Hansen and Anderson kicked goals within minutes of the third quarter getting underway, Charlton soon joining them as she floated her set shot through the middle.

Glenelg were unable to stem the tide as Taylor and Hansen added their second goals from open play.

It was all built on the Panthers’ trademark tackling pressure, locking the ball inside their forward half and making it extremely difficult for the opposition to break free.

The trend continued in the fourth term, where the Panthers remained the only side to trouble the scoreboard.

The multiple goalkickers list reached four as Vizgaudis picked up at ground level, quickly getting boot to ball as it landed in front of her.

Charlton seemed to have snapped her second, but it was ruled touched off the boot, before Jaidee-Lee Shortridge followed up to put a goal back on the board from a tight angle.

Shortridge remained a constant threat in the last term with four scoring shots, but the other three would end up as behinds.

Madison Brown came running past for a goal, before Taylor’s third would be the last for the game.

Charlton bossed the midfield with her poise and decision-making, finishing the day with 32 disposals, nine clearances, seven inside 50s and eight tackles.

Anderson was instrumental in driving the attack, repeatedly helping to generate opportunities on her way to 25 disposals, 11 marks and eight inside 50s.

Nield played her role in the win with 21 disposals, nine tackles, six clearances and five inside 50s.

A long list of goalkickers was led by Taylor, who finished with three, while Brockhurst, Hansen and Vizgaudis each added two. 

Shortridge, Brown, Charlton and Anderson also contributed goals as the Panthers shared the scoring load.

Backed by a valuable boost to their confidence and their percentage, South Adelaide will now face Woodville-West Torrens at Richmond Oval on Saturday, 25^th July at 2:50pm.
