South Adelaide came away with a 44-point victory over West Adelaide at Richmond Oval, with neither side able to feature in the SANFLW League finals.

Esther Schirmer was ruled out with a shoulder issue before the game, with Emma Charlton also missing after a late change to the Panthers’ lineup. Sam Pratt and Caitlin Couch were brought into the side in their absence.

Meanwhile, dual Margaret Nyland Medallist Nikki Nield celebrated her 50^th SANFLW game.

Returning from long-term injuries the previous week against the Roosters, Taya Maxwell and Shae Archbold both found the scoreboard early, kicking the first two.

The Bloods pushed for a response but were unable to find a major before quarter-time.

The pressure continued after the break, although South Adelaide’s defensive zone offered good coverage, with Jaslynne Smith consistently in the right areas to intercept.

Charlotte Dolan was influential in the first half, providing an effective outlet down back.

A free kick to Soriah Moon after a period of slow, contested play around the ground saw Dolan burst past with a give-and-go handball receive. 

Her kick found Jaidee-Lee Shortridge out the back, who soccered the ball through.

The Panthers pressed their advantage in the third term, taking the game away in the space of 15 minutes.

Moon won possession on the wing before handing off to Hope Taylor, who sent a long ball to half-forward. The ball bounced kindly for Doreena Hansen to gather and finish.

Locking the ball inside, Taylor cut off an inbounding kick and played on to convert a goal for herself.

Laquoiya Cockatoo-Motlap was quick to react to the spill from a marking contest, snapping another one through later in the quarter.

Dolan then found Shortridge with a diving mark that left the Bloods’ defence scrambling to recover. They were unable to get back in time, allowing Chanel May to be set up for the goal.

Two further goals to Shortridge in the final quarter extended her tally, with Jemima Woods briefly halting the Panthers’ scoring run with West Adelaide’s only goal of the game.

Moon put in one last dominant performance for the year, ending the day with 19 disposals, 11 tackles, seven clearances and 41 hitouts.

Dolan impressed with her two-way running to collect 23 disposals, six inside 50s and three marks.

Olivia Evans operated through the middle, picking up 20 disposals, eight tackles and six inside 50s.

With three goals in the win, Shortridge brought her average up to a goal a game across her first eight games at the level.

Six other Panthers also contributed, with Maxwell, Archbold, Hansen, Taylor, Cockatoo-Motlap and May all finding the goals.
