A tough day at Hisense Stadium for the South Adelaide Reserves as they fell to West Adelaide by 53 points on Saturday.
The Panthers matched it with the Bloods during the opening term and – after a very late Westies goal – entered the first break trailing by a point.
However, the home side went on to kick 10 of the last 12 goals to hand the Panthers a tough loss, 3.4 (22) to 11.9 (75).
Impressive during the tough clash was Zac Dumesny, who finished with 28 disposals and 8 marks; Luke Bogle, who collected 20 disposals and 8 tackles; and Darnell Tucker, who gathered 20 disposals and 6 marks.
Harrison Gunther was reliable up forward as he was responsible for all of the Panthers’ 3 goals.
After South opened the scoring, the Bloods kicked 6 goals in succession before Gunther could break the streak with his second goal of the day during the fifth minute of the third quarter.
During the latter half of the match, the Panthers were able to fairly match it with the Bloods – albeit they weren’t able to reflect it on the scoreboard.
But ultimately, the damage that they had sustained during the second-quarter blitz was too much to undo.
And after nearly knocking off the Bloods’ during their first encounter – this one ended in a hard-to-swallow 53-point defeat, 3.4 (22) to 11.9 (75).
However, the Panther Reserves will look to return to the winners list when they take on Central District at Flinders University Stadium on Sunday, 14 August, from 10:50am.
