South Adelaide's Reserves fell to a 30-point defeat at the hands of West Adelaide on Saturday afternoon at Hickinbotham Oval.

The Bloods kicked six unanswered goals through the end of the first and start of the second quarters to set up a 12.6 (78) to 7.6 (48) win over the Panthers.

The two sides traded blows early on, as Sam Gurney cancelled out Daniel Webb's opening score to keep the game within a kick through the first 10 minutes.

However, West worked their way on top midway through the first and were never truly challenged for the remainder of the game.

Youngster Cody Szust responded well to being sent back to the twos with a best on ground performance for the Panthers.

The Bridgewater product finished with 32 touches and 11 tackles (both game highs) in a clean performance.

Coby Helyar (25 disposals and five clearances) and Jesse McKinnon (22 and three) also found their share of the ball.

In a backline under plenty of pressure, 17-year-old Tate Coleman (27 possessions) again performed well at senior level, while Jaidan Kappler (21 touches and six rebound 50s) put in another solid performance tasked with roles at either end.

Meanwhile, big American Alex Aurrichio enjoyed another solid performance in the ruck and up forward, amassing 30 hit outs and clunking three contested marks to go with a pair of major scores late in the piece.

In a relatively disappointing performance, it was positive to see two more young players make their senior debuts.

Current Under-18s player Tyler Davies (Reynella Football Club) and former junior Brad Borrillo (Victor Harbor) both enjoyed their first experience of senior football at South Adelaide.

The Panthers now regroup before heading to Gliderol Stadium to tackle Glenelg this Saturday, July 14.
