Rick Watts Extends as Senior Women's Coach

8 June 2023

South Adelaide is pleased to announce that Rick Watts will continue on as South Adelaide Senior Women's Coach.

Watts has penned a new two-year deal that will see him continue on at the helm of the Senior Women's team until the end of the 2025 Hostplus SANFLW Season.

Watts' new deal will make him the longest serving SANFLW coach in the league.

"Rick’s commitment to our women's program is unquestionable, and to have him locked in for a further two seasons is really pleasing for the Club and all those involved in our program." said South Adelaide CEO Neill Sharpe

"Rick has played an important role in the success of our women's program over the last four seasons. He has a great ability to work with a talented playing group of all ages and continually have them play at their best each week. We're extremely grateful to Rick for extending his tenure as Coach and look forward to maintaining our strength in the competition."

"South Adelaide is a Club close to my heart and I am really fortunate to be able to continue working with a terrific group of people who are all aligned on what we want to achieve" - Rick Watts

After returning to the Panthers at the start of the 2022 season, Watts helped steer the Panthers to a third finals appearance under his watch, after a number of key injuries impacted the side including Skipper Bri Cleggett who suffered a ACL injury in 2022.

With a healthy list, a bolstered squad and improved depth, Watts has been able to guide the Panthers to their second minor Premiership, their most wins in a minor round season, and their fourth Grand Final appearance on Sunday afternoon.

"I'm really humbled and excited to be able to continue building on the foundations we have laid over the last couple of years" said Senior Women's Coach Rick Watts.

"We as a collective are building something special, the way everyone has brought into what we are trying to achieve is pleasing to see."
