Norwood Outclass Panthers in Convincing Win
Coming off the bye week, South Adelaide were overpowered by premiership favourites and current ladder leaders Norwood, who ran out 76-point winners in a disappointing outing at Magain Stadium.
The visitors’ used their run and dash through transition, as they repeatedly punished the Panthers’ turnovers to extend their winning streak to nine straight matches in the 2026 season.
Signs were ominous early as Norwood put on four of the first five of the game, broken up by a returning Eamon Wilkinson goal from the top of the square.
Isaac Birt picked out Ben Shillabeer with a precise kick prior to the run, but he missed narrowly to the left.
A combination of skill errors and Norwood’s strong defensive coverage made it difficult for the Panthers to move the ball effectively.
Aaron Francis remained an impenetrable presence in the Redlegs’ back half, consistently repelling forward entries.
Skipper Oscar Clavarino was steadfast in defence, even rising for a neat hanger early in the quarter.
South Adelaide came out better in the second term, starting with Shillabeer running back hard with the flight of the ball to hold onto the mark and kick the goal.
A two-on-one contest then resulted in Jack Delean running in for back-to-back goals for the home side.
But the Panthers’ defence was picked apart by a professional Norwood outfit, again kicking four of the next five goals either side of the break.
Tye Gander was disrupted in a marking contest, working back his set shot perfectly with the breeze.
Finn Emile-Brennan worked hard behind the ball before pushing forward late in the half, where he launched a long kick that looked set to be an outstanding goal.
However, the umpire had ruled it out, paying a push-in-the-back free kick against Delean, much to the frustration of the Panthers’ supporters.
Keeping within reach to that point, the game blew wide open as Norwood put the game away with six goals to one in the third term, putting the result beyond reasonable doubt. Shillabeer’s second goal was South Adelaide’s only major for the quarter.
The fourth term was much of the same, as the Redlegs brought up their twentieth goal of the game.
Delean provided some joy as he took a great mark on the wing, taking four bounces before setting his sights on the goals from range.
Emile-Brennan worked back a set shot from distance for a late consolation goal.
For all the hard work the Panthers put in to register their goals, it was promptly undone as Norwood dominated the run of play.
Vice-captain Oliver Davis picked up 25 disposals, ten clearances and six inside 50s to lead the side.
Arie Schoenmaker made his first appearance since Round 8 after being sidelined with a foot complaint, finishing with 18 disposals and six marks.
Delean and Shillabeer were the multiple goal kickers with two apiece, with Wilkinson, Gander and Emile-Brennan also hitting the scoreboard.
South Adelaide will now travel to Alberton Oval to take on Port Adelaide in Round 13, with the game taking place on Saturday, 4thJuly at 2:10pm.

Norwood Come Home Strong to Win Over Panthers
A five-goals-to-one final quarter propelled the Redlegs past South Adelaide at Magain Stadium, securing their ninth win in a row in the SANFL Reserves League.
Holding a lead of 20 points at three-quarter time after limiting the visitors to three goals, the Panthers were unable to withstand the late surge, falling by four points as the siren rang out to end the game.
The perfect start came courtesy of Corey Grocock, who ran behind the pack to snap the roving ball.
Emmanuel Ajang kicked the second after taking an overhead mark from a flighted kick, the term belonging to the Panthers.
Jesse Nye stood in the midfield, displaying composure and vision to link up with teammates around the contest. Nye had his own sight on goal after Austin Hogg cleverly chipped the ball into his path, but his shot drifted wide.
He shortly made amends for the miss, credit going to Callum Bennett for an alert spoil inside forward 50 for Nye to slot the Panthers' third goal.
It wasn’t as plain sailing from there however, as three Norwood goals on either side of the first change shifted the momentum in their favour.
A courageous mark going back with the flight from Ethan Johnson, who had been running hard down both wings, gave South Adelaide their only goal of the second quarter as he converted from the set shot.
The Panthers held firm to hold the Redlegs goalless to start the next half, extending their margin further through Tom Gillett and Oliver Goss.
Norwood, who had held possession for much of the day, springboarded in the final term. A goal to Bennett wasn’t enough to prevent the comeback, with the opposition kicking the last three goals of the game.
Nye finished up with 25 disposals, seven marks and a goal as the Panthers main contributor through the middle.
Ajang saw plenty of the footy with 20 disposals, seven tackles and a goal to match.
Elliott Duffield took eight marks, while Phillip Moimoi showcased his pace and nimble footwork to collect 13 touches.
South Adelaide will look to reclaim top spot when they head north to the Ponderosa to face Central District on Saturday, 4th July at 10:20am.
