Panthers Hold Down Roosters for Big Away Win

Keeping North Adelaide goalless at the Robran End, South Adelaide pushed on to win by 51 points at Revo Fitness Oval on Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers welcomed back Arlo Draper after being sidelined last week with a calf complaint.

AAMI SA U18 team member and Port Noarlunga product Archie Van Dyk also made his League debut after a strong run of form since returning to the Under-18s.

South Adelaide scrapped the ball forward for their first, with Ryan Borlace popping through the goal.

Vice-captain Ollie Davis used his agility to create the play, breaking his arms free from the contest and releasing the ball in congestion.

The term edged in the favour of the Roosters as they held territory, and the Panthers let themselves down with their disposal.

Inaccuracy prevented the home side from pulling away, while South Adelaide found success through their run, with Isaac Birt the perfect example as he slotted a goal on the move from the boundary.

Overcoming a sluggish start, the Panthers made improvements coming out of the break.

After a quiet opening term, Jack Delean climbed above the pack to grab onto the ball and kick the goal.

Birt entered the game with two career goals but doubled his tally with a long-range effort off a couple of steps.

Covering behind the ball, Finn Emile-Brennan floated across the middle to intercept the Roosters as they attempted to rebound from defence.

His timely cut off caused another turnover that set up Delean for his second.

The two combined again, with Delean making the most of his opportunity to kick his third for the quarter after being blocked out of the marking contest.

South Adelaide tightened up their kicking, using the free space on the outside to drive in deep while also winning the ball back to keep the Roosters scoreless in the second quarter.

It gave them steady momentum leading into the following half, as the run of goals stretched to six unanswered.

Phoenix Hargrave kicked one, but it owed plenty to Ryan Borlace, who brilliantly managed to leap and tap the ball back into play over his head from off the line.

Delean showed up to add two more goals, bringing his total to five as he flew into the packs.

The aerial highlights kept coming, with Tye Gander rising onto his opponent’s shoulders to take a spectacular mark inside 50.

The Roosters didn’t go away, kicking three of the last four goals of the third term to bring the margin back to an unsettling 20 points.

Not willing to let up, the Panthers released the shackles once Riley Baldi set sail for goal in the eighth minute of the last quarter.

Davis went in hard to win possession at half-forward, finding his feet in time to set up Gander with a goal coming out of the restart.

Frustrating the home side with their off-ball pressure, Delean was the recipient of another free kick in front of the sticks, converting for his sixth.

Gander brought down the mark from Harley Sparks’ quick shot and made no mistake with his second of the term.

The late scoring flurry was capped off by the returning Draper, who was picked out by an impactful Angus Bradley for a simple set shot.

Sparks covered all areas of the field to rack up 37 disposals, nine marks, six tackles and six clearances.

Davis put in the hard yards, collecting 30 disposals while matching Sparks with six tackles and six clearances.

Bradley had 26 disposals, supported well by Hargrave with 24 and a goal.

Delean put through a bag of six, having now booted 25 goals across his last seven games, including three hauls of five or more.

Gander showed off his ability in the air, also making it count on the scoreboard with ten marks and two goals.

The debutant Van Dyk settled in to the level with 12 disposals and six marks.

With West Adelaide claiming an upset win over Glenelg at home, the Panthers are now eliminated from finals contention despite the result.

South Adelaide will look to end the season on a high against the Bloods, heading to Richmond Oval in Round 19 on Saturday, 22ndAugust at 2:10pm.

Panthers Hit Their Stride Ahead of Finals with Roosters Win

South Adelaide powered to a commanding 96-point victory over North Adelaide at Revo Fitness Oval, keeping their hopes of hosting a home final alive in the SANFL Reserves League.

Kingscote’s Cain Florance made his Reserves debut after impressing at Under-18 level, having also represented the AAMI SA U18 team at the 2026 AFL National Championships.

The Roosters kicked the opening goal of the game, but it would be one of just two they registered for the day.

Ben Shillabeer put the moves on his defender to find Luke Bogle in the pocket, who hit back for the Panthers.

Ben Ashley-Cooper put South Adelaide in front with a lead they would hold for the remainder of the game, before Charlie Duncan added a running goal shortly after.

North Adelaide created several opportunities but failed to make the most of them, pushing players forward and leaving themselves exposed on the counter as Cohen Shortridge kicked two goals from four shots in a row.

Bailey Pilmore’s set shot made it business as usual after the break, but South Adelaide’s radar soon went off target as they registered six straight behinds in the second quarter.

The onslaught of entries was too much to handle as Shillabeer and Shortridge, who had both missed shots earlier themselves, made amends with goals before half-time.

Insistent work rate on and off the ball helped the Panthers build a 47-point lead in the first half.

A stagnant start to the third quarter was broken by Shortridge’s fourth goal, then Jake Gasper found his way onto the scoresheet.

Shillabeer kicked his second right on the siren before South Adelaide loaded up in the final quarter.

Pilmore and Gasper joined the multiple goalkickers with two each in the term, as the Panthers showed no signs of slowing as the game ticked into time-on.

Rounding out the performance, Tye McManus and Jesse Nye ran in for goals in the dying stages.

Duncan was prolific out wide, picking up 32 disposals, ten marks, four inside 50s and a goal.

Bogle had 24 disposals, while Nye collected 21 as the pair complemented each other well through the middle, with both finding the goals.

Florance didn’t look out of place playing against senior competition with 23 disposals, six clearances and five inside 50s.

Shortridge kicked four, Pilmore and Gasper kicked three and Shillabeer kicked two as the blue and white piled on the scores.

The win gave a significant boost to the Panthers’ percentage, leaving them equal on points with Norwood in second heading into the last game of the home and away season.

South Adelaide will take on the Bloods at Richmond Oval in Round 19 on Saturday, 22nd August at 11:30am.
