The South Adelaide Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of former player, 2nd 18 Captain and Under 19 Coach John Gordon.

John maintained a long connection with South Adelaide post his playing and coaching days and was still a regular helper with Past Player Soup nights for the senior team. 

John's football began at Marion High School from where he joined South's Under 17 squad which he eventually captained.

His skills and sportsmanship saw him captain the Under 19's before his inevitable debut into the league reserves in 1966.

During his time in the reserves and the league sides he played well over 100 games mainly as centreman, half-forward. John was known by his fellow players and colleagues at the club as JG or 'Jack'

When his league football career was over John decided to stay with South to take on the job of coaching the Under 19's for two years.

Outside of Football, John worked in the newspaper industry.
