Barrett Returns Home to the Panthers for 2027

The South Adelaide Football Club is pleased to announce the return of another Panthers junior, with Benny Barrett set to pull on the blue and white once again for the 2027 Hostplus SANFL League season.

Barrett becomes the fourth Panthers junior to return to Magain Stadium ahead of the 2027 campaign, following a stint with Port Adelaide, where he was signed as a Category B rookie in 2024.

A member of South Adelaide's 2023 Under-18 Premiership side, the 20 year old is an exciting small forward known for his blistering pace, creativity and ability to apply pressure inside forward 50.

During his time with the Power, Barrett made 32 SANFL appearances, kicking 10 goals while continuing to develop his game in an AFL environment.

Off the field, Barrett was recognised for his contribution to the community, receiving Port Adelaide's John McCarthy Award in 2026 for his commitment to Power Community Ltd.

With valuable experience under his belt, Barrett is excited to return to familiar surroundings and play a role in the Panthers' future.

“I'm really excited to be back at South Adelaide. I've always had a strong connection with the club, and I've heard nothing but good things about Monty and the direction we're heading.” Barrett said.

“I'm confident in what we're building as a group and can't wait to get back out there with some of my mates. Hopefully I can play my part in helping the club achieve some success in 2027.”

South Adelaide General Manager of Football Brent Reilly said Barrett's return was another exciting addition to the Panthers' playing group ahead of the 2027 season.

“We're thrilled to welcome Benny back to South Adelaide. He's another one of our homegrown players who has had the opportunity to spend time in an AFL environment, and we're really pleased to have him return to the club.” Reilly said.

“Benny brings genuine speed, energy and creativity to our side. His ability to apply pressure and create opportunities inside forward 50 will be a valuable addition to our attacking options."

“He's also a fantastic young person who has made a positive impact off the field, and we know he'll be a great addition to our playing group and the broader club.

“To have another junior return to South Adelaide is really pleasing, and we're looking forward to seeing what Benny can bring to the Panthers in 2027.”

Barrett's return will add further speed, pressure and attacking flair to South Adelaide's forward line as the Panthers continue to strengthen their playing list ahead of the 2027 campaign.

The South Adelaide Football Club looks forward to welcoming Benny and his partner back to Magain Stadium in 2027.
