Welcome Jonti Schuback!

6 January 2023

Young Gun Jonti Schuback heads to Noarlunga!

The Panthers are delighted to welcome medium mid/forward Jonti Schuback to Flinders University Stadium in 2023.

Averaging 20 disposals at 77 per cent efficiency across 13 matches for the Gippsland Power, one of Schuback strengths is his elite decision making and clean disposal.

In the 2022 NAB AFL Combine, Schuback showed off his explosive power recording 2.98 seconds in the 20m sprint and a solid 6:39 in the 2km.

When making the decision to return to Adelaide, Schuback highlighted the professional nature and the culture of South Adelaide and is excited to play SANFL football.

"I think for me the key factors with choosing South was the professional nature and the culture the boys bought." Said Jonti Schuback

"I was also impressed with the development program at South."

"Playing some really elite high standard footy against bigger bodies and being able to show my skills amongst some really strong talented players in the SANFL. I’m really looking forward to being part of the club's atmosphere and the excitement around SANFL footy."

Jonti has a strong football pedigree with his father Jacob Schuback who was taken by the Crows in the 2001 draft, playing seven games.

"I was originally born in Adelaide and left at a young age so I am really excited to get back and I am settling in really well. The boys, coaching staff and my family here and back home all support me and are by my side and that is super comforting and has helped me settle in really well."

When talking about what are some of his key goals are for 2023, Schuback highlighted doing the simple things well is the main focus.

"For me setting little goals to get to the big goal is how I set it out. Some smaller goals for me in 2023 is just playing consistent footy and really putting together good habits early, and doing my recovery and little things right to perform on game day to the best I can."

"The support I immediately felt was surreal, which made me feel comfortable to do my thing at South and play my part, which was really comforting to make my decision to come to the club!"

Senior Coach Jarrad Wright is excited to be a part of Schuback's football journey.

"We are really excited to continue Jonti's development at South Adelaide." said Senior Coach Jarrad Wright.

"Jonti had a very good year in the NAB league with Gippsland Power and National Champs with Vic Country playing in multiple roles."

"He is a very balanced player who has great awareness in and out of contest and makes good decisions with ball in hand."

"Jonti has strong motivation and desire to improve his game and we are delighted he has decided that the Panthers are the best fit for him to grow as a player and person to help him reach his goals."

"We are looking forward to seeing him develop in 2023."
