BETTA Teams Selection: Round 18 v Port Adelaide

19 August 2021

Panthers Captain Matt Rose makes long awaited return.

After a tough second half against the Roosters last week, the Panthers have made five changes to their side that will take on Port Adelaide on Saturday Afternoon.

Headlining the additions to the extended squad is captain Matt Rose, who has been out of action since Round 8 with a shoulder injury.

Another handy addition is dual Magarey Medalist Joel Cross who will also return, after sitting on the sidelines for the longest period of his career with an ankle issue.

Young ruck in Damon Freitag will also come in thanks to some strong form in the Reserves and will replace Bailey Griffiths who suffered a concussion last week.

The classy Reece Milsom also returns after recovering from a concussion as well.

Jesse McKinnon and Jack Elsworthy round out the additions to the extended squad that will be trimmed by the start of the game on Saturday afternoon.

Son of a gun Hayden Sampson will play his 50th SANFL Statewide Super League match after making his debut against Port Adelaide at Alberton in 2018.

In more positive news, young gun Jason Horne-Francis was named the captain of the SA Under-19 side on Wednesday night.

The two remaining teams from the inaugural SAFA season in 1877 will meet for the 263rd time.

Since the Magpies were aligned with the Power in 2014, the teams have played for 14 times with Port holding a 8 to 6 advantage.

The Panthers will once again feature as the Channel 7 game of the week and will also be broadcast on 1629 SEN SA.

Michelangelo Rucci and Kym Dillon caught up with Bryce Gibbs on Wednesday afternoon to preview the weekends big clash.

Meanwhile, the Reserves late charge for a finals spot continues with Tate Coleman and Daniel Nobes returning to the squad having recovered from Injury.

Issac Birt will make his reserves debut.
