It was a rough day at the office for the Under 16s, but the Under 18s leave a major mark against West Adelaide.

In last weeks contest the under-18s handled business beating West Adelaide in a close contest. In round 6 they were faced with the same opponent once again with all hopes of beating them in back-to-back weeks.

It was going to be another battle and faced with moderate conditions it was sure to be another thriller.

In the first term the squad came out with passion providing the first major of the contest within 6 minutes of the starting siren. It would come from Sebastian Oliver’s boot from a set shot just shy of 50-metres out.

With the ball now rolling West Adelaide would reply swiftly, this was then followed by a panther goal. It would be provided by Taylor Goad as he took a big grab 20-metres out, not wasting anytime, taking his space, and kicking with desire and putting the under-18s up.

At the end of the first term the panthers were in the lead by 9 points. Looking at the second term they would keep it up outscoring West Adelaide through the quarter.

It was Jack Delean doing damage in the opening minutes of the term as the panthers would move the ball effortlessly to the attacking fifty and within scoring range. Jack would run into the open goal and finish well building upon the lead.

The clock would wind down for some time as neither team were able to add a major score, but in the lapse, it was apparent that the under-18s wanted it more, especially Ryan Pearsons as he would provide 28 disposals in the contest.

Benny Barrett would end the drought after a contest would take place just above the goal square Dakota Sterzl would fight hard and get the ball out where Benny could work his magic and snap it through.

At half time the panthers were in the lead by 15 points and in the third term the boys put their foot down.

It was a masterclass in the third quarter with West Adelaide having no answer, putting them in the dust.

Jay Chapman would start the siege after he was given the ball with grace in the goal square, making no mistake and kicking the first panther goal of the term.

West Adelaide would reply but to no avail as the under-18s would go on to kick the next four goals of the quarter.

Tom Wheaton kicked his first of the contest as his set shot directly in front was perfect from 35-metres out.

The rest of the scoring coming late in the term as Sid Draper got on the end of a beautiful forward entry from Padrick O’Donoghue. Lining up from 25-metres out on the angle the kick was great building on the panther lead.

Before anyone could blink it was in Jake Agnew’s hands, faced with a similar situation to the last major score the kick was pure putting the under-18s up by 35 points.

As the quarter was coming to an end Jack Delean would kick his second as his set shot from directly in front sailed through for the final goal of the term.

In the fourth quarter there was no holding back providing the finishing touches on what was a great game for the under-18s.

Jake Agnew would supply his second early in the quarter, taking a mark and lining up from 40-metres out, finishing strong.

This was followed later in the term by Sid Draper’s second of the contest as he would run into an open goal, taking a bounce, and kicking the snag.

The game would close out with Jake Agnew’s third of the contest as he would kick it over his head at the top of the square.

The under-18s were convincing and would finish the contest up by 53 points, a compelling victory, the next contest will come against Glenelg on Saturday the 6th of May.

Last week was a great showing as the under-16s made a statement against West Adelaide, all sights were aimed at them once again with all hopes of getting the win against them in back-to-back weeks.

In the first term it was an all-out offensive barrage with both squads hitting the scoreboard hard. But it was Noah Kliems-Carlaw who hit the ground running with a major score within the first 30 seconds of the game.

This was swiftly followed by Hudson Voigt as his kick was true, bringing the panthers up by 12 points.

After a West Adelaide goal, it seemed as if the momentum had stopped, but the under-16s struck back with another major score, coming from Noah Kliems-Carlaw securing his second of the contest.

The opposition would reply again making it a very interesting contest as neither team could kick away, as it happened the young panthers would get the ball back into the attacking 50 and into the hands of Brodie Bretones, making it look easy as his goal was seamless.

The quarter would end with both teams on 25 points as it was apparent West Adelaide were desperate to not lose to the same squad two weeks in a row.

Looking at the second term the tide began to shift as Westies continued to hit the scoreboard hard.

For South the first of the term came from Noah Kliems-Carlaw once again after he took a great grab over his defender and was lined up from 25-metres out, going through the routine and securing his third of the contest.

West Adelaide kept coming as they would reply with two of their own.

South would manage to get on the board once more for the term with a major score off of Jacob McGarry’s boot.

Headed into the third term down by 14 points it was still anyone’s game.

West Adelaide would come out strong once again adding two more goals too their tally, the under-16s needed to reply with urgency.

This was exactly what they did as Brock Grund would get the ball on the run from 50-metres out, sprinting to around 30-metres out and while directly in front kicked it with force, getting it to go through and closing the deficit slightly.

It wasn’t long after when Cain Florance would kick his first of the contest. After being awarded a free kick, his opposition would get careless and move Cain closer to the pins with a penalty. Not wasting the opportunity, the kick was pure, putting the under-16s down by 15 points.

The panthers would add one more during the term and it was Noah Kliems-Carlaw once again, contributing his fourth of the contest. Tapping the hot ball on the 50-metre arch, gathering with one hand, and kicking a beauty while on the move.

A big run was needed in the last as West Adelaide were relentless not giving an inch the entire day.

Unfortunately, they would add another two major scores early making it a major challenge to garner a comeback.

The under-16s did their best adding two in succussion. Firstly, Isaac Ramm would unleash while moving from 45-metres out on a slight angle.

Then Jacob McGarry supplied his second of the contest. After a nice mark he was awarded a 50-metre penalty putting him in the goal square for an easy finish.

This was all not enough as West Adelaide would finish as the victor in this contest not to say the under-16s didn’t fight hard as Cameron Woods would end his game on 33 disposals a major accomplishment.

The next chance at getting back into the winning column will come against Glenelg on Saturday the 6th of May.
