The U18s played our first game in three weeks on Saturday night, after the League win against Norwood at the Parade and put up a strong fight against a tough Redlegs side.

The eventual result was a 17-point lost, but there were again many positive signs of growth from the side. The last time we played Norwood we lost by 84 points. So it was a big turnaround from the boys.

The lads were keen to get off to a good start against a top three team away from home. They did just that, with a very competitive first quarter and we were trailing by just a behind at the first break.

The game was being played at high speeds, with both teams wanting to transition the ball from defence into attack as quickly as possible.

Our second quarter was our worst defensively. We lost the possession count by 20, only laid nine tackles and let Norwood score late goals.

The lads came out after halftime firing and played our best quarter, winning the term and kicking 2.4 to Norwood's 2.1.

Scoring opened up more in the last quarter and we were unable to match the opposition's skills and slick ball movement going inside the forward 50.

Congratulations to both Tyler Davies and Job Colwell who played their first games at this level as Under-16 aged players.

A special mention also to Jessie Edwards who was a last minute call up after we lost Ben Millman (key defender) to the Reserves the morning of the game.

Jessie has worked tirelessly over the past 18 months to get his body right after injury ruined his 2015 season.

Jessie is proof that persistence and resilience pays off in the long term.
