U16 & U18 Match Report: Round 2 vs Centrals

4 April 2022

A big weekend for the boys in the blue and white: the Panther U18s and U16s registered impressive wins over Central District at X Convenience Oval on Saturday.

The day started with the South Adelaide Under-16s' strong win over the Bulldogs by 40 points, 14.10 (94) to 8.6 (54).

Then, making it 2 from 2 in the process, the under-18s followed it up with a comprehensive 107-point victory, 21.15 (141) to 4.10 (34).

The U18s resounding result was the perfect way to bounce back from their dismal start to the year – and many contributors helped make it happen.

Jack Delean influenced the scoreboard with 5 goals. While Angus Bradley (29 disposals, 5 clearances, 2 goals) and Jaiden Magor (22 disposals, 5 tackles, 2 goals) were strong around the ground.

With plenty to prove, the Panther U18s pounced on the Bulldogs early with 5 goals during the first quarter – with each coming from a separate scorer.

Refusing to let the opposition back into the match; the Panthers put their foot down during the second term by booting 5 goals and conceding just 1.

This broke the match wide open for South who, by the time they kicked 5 unanswered goals to end the match, had increased their final winning margin to 107 points.

This percentage-boosting win has seen the Panther U18s jump into the fourth spot on the ladder.

As for the South Adelaide U16s, their 40-point win sees them sit equally at the top of the ladder.

Sid Draper was a standout from their result; having had 33 disposals, 13 clearances and 2 goals.

While Phoenix Hargrave (32 disposals, 6 clearances) and Oliver Goss (19 disposals and 7 marks) were also among the key contributors.

Similar to the U18s game, the Panther U16s started fast. They booted 4 unanswered goals within the opening 11 minutes of play.

Then after a second-quarter surge that saw the Panthers boot 3 goals in 3 minutes; they held a 45-point lead at halftime. From there, the boys ran out the rest of the match to keep their premiership defence looking sturdy after 2 rounds of footy.

Aiming to keep this fine form going, the South Adelaide U18s will now face off against North Adelaide at Flinders University Stadium on Saturday, 9 April, from 10:30am.

Following that match, the U16s will take to the field at Flinders University Stadium looking to make it 3 from 3 when they clash with the Roosters from 1:00pm.
